Happy New Year!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! Mine was pretty low-key, but still busy. We both ended up coming down with something the weekend before Christmas so we had to adjust our plans. Instead of going out to some of the beautiful light displays around town, we decided to tour nearby neighborhoods. There are some amazing private light displays! Below is a scrapbook page of two of my favorites.

When my husband was growing up, he and his mother built gingerbread houses every Christmas. He would play architect and design elaborate buildings, and his mother baked and decorated them. We wanted to start that tradition for ourselves this year, but between crazy work schedules and getting sick, it didn’t happen. I wanted my gingerbread house though, so I picked up a kit from the grocery store. Something is better than nothing, right? Well, it did not turn out exactly as I had imagined (lack of proper tools played a large role. Icing bags always need fancy tips.). I think it’s still kind of cute, though. And it would definitely be a great and easy project for a kid.

We also fulfilled a dream of mine for the past five years---to dress up my cats for Christmas. Poor Sally and Ming did not like their Santa hats! When we put the hat on Ming, she immediately flopped and acted pitiful. It reminded me of the videos of cats in Thundershirts, where the cat will not move at all. Sally, on the other hand, started shaking her head and batting at the hat. She was actually successful at removing it, but not before we got a cute picture. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be our Christmas card photo next year.
Those were the highlights of our holiday activities this year.
