Grr...

A conversation that just took place between me and Geoff:

Me: I'm going to workout. It would be nice if you could maybe do the dishes.
(Note: It's been his turn to clean the dishes all week. I would have given in and done them except that whenever I'm over here, I've been busy doing homework--it's been a rough week for me. And Geoff--he gets back and plays WOW.)

Geoff: Maybe. But I don't want to spend all day cleaning.

Me: (Trying not to get mad) If you'd cleaned up the house bit by bit over the past month, then you wouldn't HAVE to spend the entire day cleaning...

How long does it take guys to get with the program? I know this conversation makes Geoff sound lazy and immature, and the truth is that sometimes he can be, but often he's not and he's willing to do what I ask...as long as I pester him about it. My mom says there are some things my dad's just now learning and they've been married for almost 40 years. She also said he was a slob when he was Geoff's age, and I have to admit that's pretty hard for me to imagine, so I know change is possible. We're not married yet, but I hope helping me clean up is something he learns sooner rather than later.

Note: I told Geoff I was frustrated by his lack of desire to help, especially when I work all day and he plays WOW, and he said he understood and would try to work on that. Yay! I'm just glad he understands.

  1. hahahahahaha! We go through the exact same stuff! It drives me nuts! Chase doesn't even see the messes - just looks right over them. He just doesn't get it... Earlier this week he spilled red wine on the carpet, but then he cleaned it up with one of our brand new, white rags we got as a wedding present. I just laughed and told him was transferring the stain from the carpet to the rag. Silly men! Unfortunately the messiness just comes with the territory of being married to one!
